Flag

Also known as black flag, gobo. Category: Lighting and optics

A flag is an opaque panel, usually black, placed to block light from reaching part of the scene or the lens. Flags control spill and reflections and add defining dark edges to glossy or transparent products.

How PhotoRobot uses it

The C-Class turntables have a nylon web under the glass to hold black flags beneath the table, and the CASE 1300 includes reflection boards and flag holders.

  • Reflector: A surface that bounces light back onto the subject to fill shadows; also the dish fitted to a light.
  • Softbox: A light modifier: a fabric box with a diffuser front that turns a small light into a large, soft source.
  • Optical glass plate: A turntable top made of optical glass that can be lit and photographed through, giving shadow-free images.
